What this certification is
Claude Certified Architect – Foundations (often abbreviated in Credly/Pearson materials as a Foundations-level architect credential) validates that practitioners can make informed tradeoffs when implementing real-world solutions with Claude. Public descriptions emphasize foundational knowledge across:
- Claude Code — configuration and agentic coding workflows
- Claude Agent SDK — building agentic applications
- Claude API — production API usage patterns
- Model Context Protocol (MCP) — tools and context integration
Credly skill tags associated with the badge include AI system design, context management, multi-agent orchestration, production reliability, prompt engineering, structured output, and tool/MCP design.
Foundations vs Professional
Anthropic treats Foundations and Professional as separate exams. Foundations proves you can build with Claude; Professional focuses on designing and governing Claude solutions at enterprise scale. There is no formal prerequisite forcing Foundations first, and Foundations does not automatically upgrade to Professional.
Price and logistics (verify current)
- Public partner FAQ lists Claude Certified Architect – Foundations at $125 USD (price increased from $99 effective June 30, 2026 for later registrations).
- Exams are proctored (Pearson VUE / OnVUE pathways are referenced on Anthropic’s Pearson Vue program page).
- Certification can count toward a firm’s standing in the Claude Partner Network.

- Build a small production-shaped sample: API + tool/MCP integration + evaluation/guardrails notes.
- Practice explaining tradeoffs (latency vs quality, tools vs prompts, single vs multi-agent) out loud — architect exams reward judgment, not trivia.
